What is Adopt
a Farmer?
It’s a solidarity and support project for the people of Puerto Rico, driven by World Wide Culture Link and led by Ivonne Hanks, an American by necessity and a Puerto Rican at heart.
In recent years, the economy of the island of Puerto Rico has been battered, primarily by Hurricane Maria, which claimed the lives of 4,727 people and caused enormous economic losses that still linger today. The recent health crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the situation.
The most sustainable way forward for Puerto Rico is agriculture. This project aims to assist the island’s farmers in advancing their initiatives by applying innovation to the processes of production and product sales, with the goal of increasing the positive impact of this activity on the local community and inspiring young people to engage in this endeavor.
How we cultivate the future of Puerto Rico
In this project we have three main lines of action to achieve our objectives
Mentorship Program
We have the collaboration of agriculture professionals from Spain and the United States who run successful businesses to guide and assist farmers in Puerto Rico looking to innovate in the production and marketing of their products.
Project Financing
We secure funding through voluntary donations. 100% of the proceeds raised from altruistic donations go directly to local producers in Puerto Rico who are part of this program.
Online Training
We offer training through webinars and workshops that any producer from Puerto Rico or around the world can attend for free. These sessions are led by volunteer professionals from all over the world who want to contribute to the project.
Puerto Rico's wealth is inland.
Who Can Contribute
Anyone can contribute through product purchases, donations, or collaboration.
Industry Professionals
If you are a professional in the agriculture, marketing, or graphic and product design sectors, you can contribute to the mentorship program or online training.
Companies
Companies, regardless of their sector, can contribute through financial donations, materials, or resources for production distribution and marketing.
Individuals
You can contribute by donating funds, purchasing merchandise, or directly supporting farmers by buying their products.
How does this project help farmers in Puerto Rico
The work of the land is intimately connected to the Boricua culture. Through the care and protection of agriculture, the idiosyncrasy of a people is also safeguarded.
Supporting local farmers with education, promotion, and direct product sales helps them compete in the market on equal footing, ensuring they receive the maximum benefit possible for their crops.
